Oldie November

When I was a young mum I found conversations about nappies, colic and babies’ sleep patterns absolutely fascinating. Later, I could talk for hours on the subject of schools. Was it worth pretending to be a Christian and a church-goer for the sake of an excellent free education? – things like that. But these days I find those topics unutterably boring – while other subjects (that I used to find boring) I now find rivetting. Arthritis. Insomnia. Acid reflux. Cancer. Health generally. Introduce me to someone with a stick at a party, or someone gasping in a corner, and I will rush over and ask precisely what is wrong with them. Partly because I am deeply sympathetic person given to much compassion and caring for others and brim over with the milk of human k, but mainly because I want to tell them about me.
